A couple of months after Martin, Chatwood and
Burrows had formed "The Tea Party" they recorded a demo cassette
and mailed it off to some labels. They didn’t receive any replies
but, fortunately, they were able to raise the funds to publish their
self-titled album independently.
As is quite common with young and unknown bands
the album was produced in a simple and rather Low-Fi way -- the product
of youthful dreams. This is why some of the songs on the 12 track album
sound a bit raw and unpolished. Nevertheless, you can clearly see the
potential that the band possesses.
If you listen to the record, most songs will remind
you of such greats as Zeppelin, Cream and, of course, Hendrix, and all
of the songs have a blues-psychedelic touch. The calmer pieces (Watching
What The Rain Blows In, All My Charms) and the more rock inspired ones
(Let Me Show You The Door, Little Miss Heaven) alternate throughout
the album. You can also get a pretty good idea of how the music sounds
by just looking at the cover that was created by Michael Green while
he was on an LSD trip! But not only the music and artwork show links
to the hippie culture, the clothing of the three, as you can see in
the first video, „Let Me Show You The Door“, provides more
than enough hints!
The album was published in 1991 with a total number
of 3500 copies made (some of them as tapes) and is now a very rare collectible
that can occasionally be found on eBay. Unfortunately we probably won’t
be seeing a reissue of the album, at least not until the band has dissolved.
